The Soul Behind Our Natural Colors

Step into the world of traditional Indian paintings, where every hue tells a story rooted in nature. These images, captured during the creation of the paintings on our website are created using natural pigments- hand ground from stones, minerals and plant extracts, showcasing various natural mineral pigments traditionally used in miniature paintings. The minerals visible in the images include -  Orpiment (Hartal) – bright yellow, Red Ochre (Geru to Sindoori) – Reddish pigment made from red oxide, lamp black (Kajali) – Dark black made from soot collected from burning oil lamps, brown Ochre of Raw Umber – A natural iron rich mineral used for earthy tones.

These minerals are ground into a fine powder and mixed with natural binders like gum Arabica for application in paintings.

Painstakingly prepared and carefully applied, these natural colours do more than decorate- they preserve centuries old traditions and the spirit of Rajasthan’s rich artistic heritage.

*All natural colours, sourced from the Flora and minerals found in and around Rajasthan, have been used to create these paintings unless stated otherwise.
