Pichwai devotion
Close up Shrinathji pichwai of bejewelled priests performing aarti
Shrinathji and the pujaris’ (priests) being the focus of this painting, the artist has laid a lot of emphasis on the details of costume and adornments. The priests performing the aarti are dressed in luxurious, traditional attire. They wear mul mul dhotis’ made of the finest cotton and angavastrams ( shoulder cloth), which are often adorned with gold and silver thread work. Their jewellery includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings reflecting their high stature and the ceremonial importance of the occasion. Their faces illuminated with devotion and concentration. Their postures are reverent with hands gracefully holding the various Aarti implements.
This unique close up depiction of Shrinathji with high contrast colours makes a bold and beautiful statement.
