Miniature Bani Thani
Miniature style painting inspired by the famous ‘bani -thani’ from Kishangarh school of art
This miniature style painting takes inspiration from the famous ‘Bani Thani’ which was originally created by the artist Nihal Chand in the 18th century (Kishangarh school of art). His style is characterised by elongated faces, arched eyebrows, lotus like eyes and elegant postures, the severity of which has been softened in this interpretation. ‘ Bani Thani’ literally translating to ‘well dressed woman’, it was a nickname given to a woman named Vishnu priya, who was known for her exceptional beauty and initially worked as a poet and singer in the royal court of Kishangarh. The lady in this painting is depicted in regal attire, with exquisite jewellery and rich clothing. The painting captures her in a profile view, with a serene and contemplative expression which adds to her mystique.
